Zuari deaths: Strong currents, near zero visibility, misleading inputs make salvage operations challenging

Strong currents, poor visibility and misleading inputs turned salvage operations for the SUV and its unfortunate victims into a daunting task. The impact of the crash from a height of 13m left the vehicle completely mangled, further complicating the salvage process. The divers from the Indian Navy’s Clearance Diving Unit found that they were virtually swimming blind and had to feel their way in close to 10-12m of turbid water amid debris from the under-construction bridge over the Zuari.
