Slowly, Goa villages raise voice against widow discrimination

Over the past month, panchayats across Goa have seen resolutions passed to put an end to discriminatory customs pertaining to widows, which continue to be observed in some rural areas. It all began in Herwad village in Kolhapur, whose gram sabha decided to prohibit the regressive practices. Taking inspiration from Hervad, villages across Goa are seeing a movement which is fast spreading to all corners of the state.
