No crime if teacher disciplines child sans mala fide intent: Bombay high court

In a landmark judgment, the high court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday held that an act of a schoolteacher, with no mala fide intention, to correct a child in school is not an offence. This judgment has settled the legal position on teachers disciplining children after the Goa Children’s Act was passed in 2003. Some teachers have faced criminal cases for allegedly meting out corporal punishment to students in schools.
