Goa: Karla’s isolation to end as road to hamlet takes shape

Less than two years ago, when TOI visited 95-year-old Bhomo Gaonkar at his humble dwelling atop the hills of remote Karla village in Netravali, Sanguem, he was nursing sepsis that had developed from a wound near his left ankle. With no access to medical facilities in the village or anywhere nearby, Bhomdad, as Gaonkar is fondly called, had turned to the surrounding forests for traditional herbal medicine. Though the rustic remedy helped heal his wound gradually, the nonagenarian has been yearning for an access road to Karla to make the lives of the next generations of the village easier.
