Even as the state government is working to protect waterbodies in Goa by notifying 35-odd lakes as wetlands, many of the water bodies are presently in dire need of such conservation efforts. Data available with the water resources department (WRD) reveals that water from five lakes in South Goa, when tested, showed ‘contamination from sewage material’.
